The November 22nd, 2024 issue of the Laguna Beach Independent (Volume 21, Issue 47) highlights our grant to the Orange Coast College Horticulture Department. Back in August some of our board members toured the Horticulture Lab at OCC and presented the department with a $1,500 grant to help provide needed tools and supplies. This grant is in line with Laguna Beach Garden Club’s mission to further education for local youth in horticulture, agriculture, and sustainability for the future.
On November 15, 2024 the LA Times Daily Pilot published an article on the Laguna Art Museum’s Art + Nature Fashion Show. This up cycled couture fashion show invited students and faculty from local colleges and universities to design fashion that reflects the mission statements of various LAM community partners as a kick-off for its 12th annual Art + Nature Initiative. On October 29, 2024, StuNews (Volume 16, Issue 87) announced that the Laguna Beach Garden Club has been recognized by the Laguna Beach Beautification Council. The Garden Club received two awards at the recent Beautification Awards Ceremony, one to our organization for our contributions to the community, and another in conjunction with the Water District for the Willey “Good of the Hive” bee mural.
The October 18th, 2024 issue of the Laguna Beach Independent highlights our 2nd Annual “Good of Our Hive” event at our October 11th General Meeting (Issue 42, pg. 33). Daughters of the American Revolution representative, Sharon Donor, presented the Laguna Beach Garden Club with an award in recognition of the incredible amount of community service that they perform and for bringing the Wiley bee mural and its message to Laguna Beach.

On June 18, 2024, StuNews (Volume 16, Issue 46) published about the scholarships that the Laguna Beach Garden Club has awarded to students entering the fields horticulture, landscape design, environmental sciences and botany at Laguna Beach High School and Saddleback College.
On May 10, 2024 the LA Times Daily Pilot published an article on Matt Willey’s “The Good of the Hive” mural in Laguna Beach. The article features and interview from the artist about his experiences working in our city. It also mentions the city’s recent proclamation recognizing the first Saturday in May as “Bee Day.” (Photo by Don Leach)
On April 19, 2024, The Laguna Beach Independent featured the Laguna Beach Garden Club in their Non-Profit Spotlight section in an article entitled “Not your Granny’s Garden Club” which highlighted many of the exciting things that our growing club is doing.
The May 2024 issue of Laguna Beach Magazine puts a spotlight on the Good of the Hive mural (pg. 71).
